In this context, terms like IaaS, PaaS or SaaS start being commongly used. If you don't work directly with them, the chances are you may have heard them, but do you know for sure what they mean? Very often people find these terms misleading in this model based on layers.

At this point, let's go step by step...

IaaS:

Here we talk about "infrastructure as a service". It is the simplest category to define, since it is a provider that provides an escalated and automated IT infrastructure and whose payment mode is pay-as-you-go.

It is a perfect model for businesses that want to scale virtual servers and cloud storage. Cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) allows companies to purchase and scale IT ressources you need by minute, hour or month. IaaS supports all of your web applications, databases and storage needs.

PaaS:

In this case we talk about "platform as a service". It consists of offering all the basic IaaS concepts, together with tools and necessary capacities to develop and implement applications safely. In this case, it is the provider who is in charge of managing security, Operating Systems, the server's software and the backups. That way, it allows organizations to focus on development without the need to worry about the underlying infrastructure.

SaaS:

It is no doubt the most extended one and it means none other than "software as a service". In this case, part of the company's software is hosted by a third party, which makes it available through the Web. This is particularly relevant when we talk about specific applications such as the Customer Relationship Management software or the email itself.

An example of a SaaS service is that offered by Uniway, which offers an extreme ease of use together with simplified billing and always-updated software. In addition, Uniway's SaaS solutions are conceived for the client to make use of them whenever the client needs them, having at reach certain solutions that otherwise would not be available.
