Current society, with its technological developments, is offering increasingly more easy ways to manage your private life together with your work life. Although in Spain teleworking wasn't extended at all, for the last couple of years the number of companies that allowed their workers to telework was growing, although still reluctantly. Remote work implementation kept a slow pace just until a year ago, when the COVID-19 came and paralizaed the world, changing everything while becoming more serious and creating what could be called as another way of living.

All of a sudden, companies and employees were forced to continue their work remotely, or at least as much as possible. Now, almost a year after, workers and companies have almost fully adapted to this system and there are many companies that willingly decided to adopt it permanently.

According to the data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), only 27% of the companies had experienced teleworking before the COVID-19 pandemic. Only 7% of the population worked remotely once in a while and 4% on a regular basis. Data that no doubt increased noticeably this year.

Only 27% of the companies had experienced teleworking before the COVID-19 pandemic

Up to this point, and to make sure teleworking stays as trustworthy and safe as possible, there is the need for improving certain technological abilities as well as having better computers, as shown by the study "Workforce of the Future" carried out by Cisco.

Only 4% of the employees did their work remotely before the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, according to the report. By now, nine out of then want at least to have the possibility to choose between teleworking and working at their office, therefore asking for more flexibility. At European level, the percentage of those asking for more autonomy and flexibility is even higher and reaches 87% of the employees.

Technological and security needs

Regarding technological needs, among the most important demands, it stands out the fact that companies should provide the tools to work from home, a point 85% of the workers who participated in the survey agree on. On the other hand, eight out of ten employees ask for better training in digital issues and abilities to keep up with the performance they used to have.

Teleworking has increased the risks companies face, so they had to implement new security methods

We should as well highlight the issue related to security, and the very own companies were submerged in a race towards ensuring their systems remotely, since in such a critical situation, threats had grown with a wide range of attacks that cover from phishing to ransomware. That's why it is of utmost importance for companies to have cybersecurity technical tools to keep this new phenomenon under control.

From Uniway, we offer enterprises services so that they can guarantee the highest security of their employees whether they work at the office itself or remotely. Among the services we offer, there are tools whose purpose is identifying the vulnerabilities that provide information about the systems, thus reducing exposure to possible attacks and the direct impact on the information.
