Woody has been saving the world for 30 years
But nobody warned him that the world was going to change
Toy Story 5Â is in theaters. And for the first time in the saga, the enemy isn't an obsessive collector, a daycare with a child dictator, or Andy's forgetfulness: Â the enemy is a screen.
The film revolves around something any parent instantly recognizes: children no longer play with toys. They play with devices. Tablets, phones, game consoles. Woody and Buzz don't compete against other toys. They compete against algorithms designed by entire teams of engineers to capture attention for hours. Algorithms that learn. That adapt. That never get tired.
And they're losing.
The problem with the cowboy isn't technology. It's that he hasn't evolved.
He's a cowboy from the 1950s.
Â
It has survived decades remaining exactly the same as it always was.
For a long time that was a virtue — reliable, consistent, known.
But when the context changes radically, consistency ceases to be a virtue and becomes a trap.
Silent. Slow. Almost invisible until it's too late.
It's not that he's bad. It's just that the world around him changed at a speed he didn't anticipate, and by the time he wanted to react, he was already several years behind.
Simplemente no tomĂł decisiones.
